Smartlink University

While we work to support and further our clients’ goals, we also strive internally to give our teams the knowledge and tools they need to support the business through Smartlink University. The focus of Smartlink University is to develop a highly proficient workforce to support the business. In this model, learning is part of a development equation that includes tools such as mentoring, knowledge databases, subject matter experts and peer discussions. Performance competencies are developed and monitored through assessments, performance evaluations, mandatory and elective training, and good old-fashioned testing and scoring.

Meet Our Leadership Team

Smartlink’s leadership team is a diverse and knowledgeable group, with significant hands-on experience in infrastructure deployment and asset management in communications. Chief Executive Officer, Founder

Native to Annapolis, MD, Brendan Kelly is the owner and CEO of several businesses including Smartlink, Driven, and The Chesapeake Bayhawks. In 2000, Kelly saw an opportunity in the communications industry and launched Smartlink to fulfill staffing needs for communications companies. The company started with only two employees and has grown to over 700 employees nationwide today. In 2006, Smartlink expanded to include a services division, enabling start-to-finish management of new site builds, upgrades, land acquisitions and more for leading communications companies. In 2010, Smartlink became a national player when it landed major contracts with a countrywide presence. On December 31, 2012, Smartlink acquired RealCom Associates, LLC, a Seattle-based site development and staffing firm with a strong presence along the West Coast. This acquisition accelerated Smartlink’s national footprint, adding offices in Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco and Seattle. Smartlink now does business in 43 states and will soon be looking into international opportunities. In 2014, Smartlink added IT to its existing fields of specialty, which include real estate, construction and engineering. Kelly’s diverse entrepreneurial portfolio has led to several individual honors and awards. He was named one of What’s Up Annapolis’ People to Watch in 2011. In 2012, he was named a Business Leader of the Year Nominee from the Annapolis and Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce and was featured on the cover of SmartCEO magazine as part of their Entrepreneur issue, “Eye on the Ball.” Ernst & Young named Kelly an Entrepreneur Of The Year® Regional Award Winner and National Finalist in 2013, one of the most prestigious business awards for entrepreneurs. On February 5, 2015, Brendan was honored at Salisbury University’s Business Leadership Award Luncheon, held by the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business. Additionally, Brendan has lead Smartlink to impressive accolades for its strides in business. Smartlink was named one of SmartCEO’s 100 Best Run Companies in 2012 and received the 2014 Supplier Growth Award from Verizon/Pontoon Solutions for its expansive success in both employee placements and revenue on Verizon projects. Smartlink and The Chesapeake Bayhawks were jointly nominated for the Don Riddle Corporate Citizenship Award in 2013, sponsored by the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, for their extensive involvement in the community. Kelly currently resides in Annapolis, MD with his wife and five children.

President

Since joining Smartlink in December 2012, Jason Campbell has applied his solid industry acumen, leadership prowess, and creative insights to result in a rise to the role of President of the company. He most recently served as the Senior Vice President of Services, overseeing all Real Estate, Engineering and Construction projects for the company. A former Senior Development Manager at T-Mobile, Campbell has over 12 years of wireless industry knowledge having worked for some of Smartlink’s largest clients. Jason earned a degree in Economics from Denison University.

Jonathan Kemezis

Chief Financial Officer

A graduate of the University of Maryland with a dual degree in accounting and finance, Jon Kemezis entered the public accounting practice of BDO Seidman. After earning his CPA, he joined Smartlink in 2002 as a senior accountant and was quickly appointed to the Director of Finance in 2004. As the company has grown, so too have Mr. Kemezis’ responsibilities as he has ascended to the role of Chief Financial Officer where he oversees the company’s fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities. Kemezis’ leadership also extends to the management of other company operations including procurement, facilities, business processes, and financial operations analysis

Chief Information Officer

Mark Matheson joined Smartlink in January 2015 as VP of Business Applications. He now serves as the company’s Chief Information Officer, overseeing all IT functions and processes. With over 20 years’ experience, Matheson joined Smartlink from his previous role at Cristal, where he served as the Global Director of Business Solutions. Highly skilled and results-driven, he holds leadership experience with IT strategy and development, implementation, critical application management, problem solving and business performance management. Matheson earned his MBA, Graduate Diploma (Business Management) and Graduate Certificate (Management Studies) from Edith Cowan University in Australia.

Scott Garry

Senior Vice President of Business Development

Scott Garry co-founded Smartlink in 2000 and currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Business Development. Throughout his career with the company, he has been responsible for national sales, recruiting, and employee relations in the telecommunications, real estate, construction, engineering and IT industries. Prior to co-founding Smartlink, Garry specialized in providing power generation solutions for several telecommunications carriers, developing fixed and broadband networks throughout the United States. He graduated from Whittier College in Los Angeles, California with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Marketing.

Tim Harden

Member, Board of Advisors

Tim Harden joined Smartlink as the first member of the Board of Advisors in February 2015. Supply chain procurement, general operations and continued growth will be major focuses of Harden’s advisement for our company. Harden, now retired, previously served as President of Supply Chain and Fleet Operations with AT&T Services, Inc., where he oversaw all aspects of the business, inclusive of wireless, IP-based communications, high-speed Internet access and voice. Harden’s tenure has afforded him extensive experience in numerous facets of the communications industry. During his series of executive assignments with AT&T, SBC and Pacific Telesis, Harden has created a diverse portfolio, including management of network services and engineering, significant business deployments, procurement, operations, business development and customer relations.
